A New On-line Museum of Environmental Art
The Arts and Healing Network is proud to announce the arrival of a new on-line museum dedicated to environmental art -- greenmuseum.org. The site was founded by a group of environmental artists who recognized a need for a clearly organized and accessible resource on environmental art. The site includes an archive of environmental artists and a calendar of upcoming events. As their mission statement reads, "We see ourselves as a traditional museum turned inside out... More than a museum, we see greenmuseum.org as a giant collaborative art making tool. We hope you find it useful, friendly and easy to navigate. " Visit them at www.greenmuseum.org
FEATURED BOOK:
Writing on Wateredited by David Rothenberg and Marta Ulvaeus
"Water does not divide; it connects." -David Rothenberg
Water links all aspects of our existence. From the politics of watersheds to the romance of turtles climbing up from the sea to the beaches, from poetry to science, and from Leonardo Da Vinci to Octavio Paz, the writings in this book reflect the many aspects of human's relationshipwith water. This book succeeds in demonstrating that environmental issues are cultural and artistic as well as practical and political. Published by MIT Press in 2001, this hardback book has over 30 contributors and 282 pages. $24.95. Click here to order or call 800-356-0343.
FlowformsPacific
FlowformsPacific is a group of artists and scientists dedicated to creating modern, dynamic yet peaceful sculptures which incorporate the basic elements of nature -- solid forms, water, air, light and warmth. FlowformsPacific creates exciting spaces with moving and sounding forms which are healing for people, water and eco-systems.
There are many types of Flowforms but the central concept is that it is a vessel which brings streaming water into a flowpattern similar to that of liquid in the heart. The shape of the sculpture brings the water to stream through a full figure-of-eight flowpath. This rhythmical pulse and flowpattern is created and maintained by the sculpture. Until recently, such a heartflow only occurred within living organisms and it is this that makes Flowforms quite unique.
As well as being works of art, Flowforms are also used around the world in water treatment. They can be very effective in oxygenation, and in polishing water, while the rhythmic intensification has been shown, scientifically, to increase water's capacity to support lifeforms. They are used internationally in agriculture and effluent treatment! As such, Flowforms can be seen as organs for the regeneration of water's natural power.
